Grants of up to $8,000 to Washington individuals and youth-led groups, clubs, and organizations in eligible locations for activities and programs that promote social and racial equity. Funding is intended to support youth-led social justice projects that address hate, bias, and violence related to race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation in Seattle.

Specifically, this grant is intended to benefit Seattle's Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), Asian-American Pacific Islander communities, and LGBTQIA+ communities. The target audience for funded projects can be Seattleites of any age, race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.

Examples of allowable uses of funds include youth stipends for their time working on the project, printed materials, refreshments during an in-person event, rental costs, swag or giveaways, as well as any costs associated with cleaning, face masks, health and safety supplies, and operating safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. DEEL encourages grantees to support BIPOC- and women-owned businesses.

If more funds are requested than available, DEEL will prioritize applications based on a combination of factors including:

  • Council districts served by the project
  • Social justice topic area
  • Whether a fiscal sponsor is identified
  • Who the target audience for the project is
  • Number of people served.
