Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $30,000 to Idaho and Washington nonprofit charities in eligible counties for projects and programs that benefit local communities. Funding is intended for programs in the following impact areas: quality of life, economic opportunity, education and youth development, health and wellbeing, and arts and culture. Eligible areas include the Eastern Washington Counties of Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Lincoln, Spokane, Adams, Whitman, Columbia, Garfield, and Asotin; and the North Idaho Counties of Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai, Benewah, Latah, Nez Perce, Lewis, Clearwater, Shoshone, and Idaho.

Within the above impact areas, the Foundation aims to fund proposals that are a strong fit with one or more of the following Guiding Principles:

  • Respond compassionately to meet basic human needs
  • Bring people together to build inclusive communities
  • Expand opportunity and reduce inequity

Organizations may request a Community Grant for any of the following project types:

  • Build a new program
  • Expand an existing program
  • Support for an existing program
  • Capital projects/equipment
  • Capacity building

Estimated Size of Grant:

The maximum award amount is $30,000, with most grants in the range of $10,000 – $20,000.

Term of Contract:

Grant awards are for a one-year period from June 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must be a public charity with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; a federally recognized tribe; or a public entity such as a school district, municipality, or unincorporated group or association.
- In all cases, the applicant organization/program must have a clear charitable purpose.
- Applicants cannot have any delinquent reports for previous grants awarded through all Innovia Foundation’s grant programs.
- Some grant programs have specific restrictions. Be sure to read grant guidelines carefully to see if any restrictions apply.
- Innovia Foundation competitive grants are awarded to organizations providing services within the 20-county region served by the Foundation. (Eastern Washington Counties: Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Lincoln, Spokane, Adams, Whitman, Columbia, Garfield and Asotin. North Idaho Counties: Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai, Benewah, Latah, Nez Perce, Lewis, Clearwater, Shoshone and Idaho.)
- Please note that Innovia Foundation has multiple grant programs. Applying to/receiving grant funding from one Innovia Foundation grant program does not preclude your organization from to applying to any other Innovia Foundation grant program.

In considering applications for funding from faith-based organizations the Foundation will apply the following criteria:
- The program or service to be funded must be open to all members of the community (not just members of the faith community applying for funding)
- In the course of providing programs or services, faith-based organizations cannot require clients to participate in or adopt any specific religious practice or belief

Activities Typically Not Eligible for Community Grant Funding:
- Academic or scientific research
- Debt retirement, operating deficits or after-the-fact support
- Direct or grassroots lobbying
- Annual fund appeals and contributions to endowments
- Re-granting programs
- Litigious activities

- Grant applications will be accepted from December 16, 2019 to January 31, 2020
- Final funding decisions will be announced by May 29, 2020

Early Bird Incentive! Organizations that submit their application by midnight on January 15 will be automatically entered into a drawing to receive a $1,000 grant for general operating support.

Grant proposals with clear community support (in-kind, additional funding, volunteer engagement etc.) are more competitive.

Organizations are eligible to submit one application per cycle.
