Grants of up to $2,500 to Idaho and Washington individuals and nonprofit organizations in eligible locations to address critical needs in the community. Program areas may include education, medical care, clothing, food, and shelter. Applicants must be located in the counties of Kootenai, Bonner, and Benewah in Idaho, or Spokane County in Washington.

Major Funding Categories:

Community Service

  • Programs, projects, and organizations that are important components of a community‚Äôs overall quality of life, with emphasis on public safety, health care, and self-sufficiency.
  • Individual or family unit with emphasis on health care and self-sufficiency.
  • Programs and projects that enhance the cultural environment of communities in the local area.

Education and Youth

  • Scholarships: provided annually as funds are available to Kootenai Electric members or their children who are either seniors in high school or currently enrolled in college or an accredited training institution.
  • School programs and projects.
  • Programs that are designed to combat critical social problems affecting local children and youth, with an emphasis on children and teens at risk. 
  • Programs and projects that promote wellness and encourage youth participation in athletics and physical fitness activities.

Environment

  • Programs and projects that promote community recycling and natural resource preservation.
  • Community-based environmental quality education programs.

Emergency Energy Assistance

  • Community Action Programs, Project Share, and other local entities that collect and distribute money for low-income emergency energy assistance.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All applications for Operation Round Up funds are designated for either an individual or an organization in need.

Contributions to organizations will generally be made only to nonprofits that have been granted tax-exempt status under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).

Individuals or family unit funding is only available to Kootenai Electric members with an active electric account. All individual or family applications must be accompanied by a referral letter from a social service agency, such as the Department of Health and Welfare, Kootenai Health, etc.

Contributions will not be made for:
- Lobbying and political organizations
- Veteran, fraternal and labor organizations
- National fund drives
- Advertising
- Individuals mortgage and rent payments
- Electric Bills

Pre-Application Information:

The applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis at the meeting of the Trust Board, and a decision is then made on disbursement. The next application deadline is October 22, 2021.

Grant recipients cannot apply within one year of receipt of Trust funds.
