Good health depends on many basic factors and conditions like a successful school experience, a good job, stable housing, or access to needed care. Through the community health needs assessment, Kaiser Permanente Northwest prioritizes the Key Drivers of Health that affect communities throughout their service area. Applications must align with one of the key Drivers of Health:

  • Economic Opportunity – The goal of this focus area is to support projects that increase individuals’ economic means to provide basic needs like food, shelter/housing, utility assistance, childcare to name a few. Projects’ should focus on helping those on a journey to become self-sufficient with needs like transportation, mentoring and workforce training and placement.
  • Educational Attainment – The goal of this focus area is to ensure that students in the PreK-12 system have the opportunity to excel, graduate high school, and successfully complete postsecondary education or training. Projects should focus on supporting youth, families, and community with ways to eliminate barriers and support successful efforts to promote educational attainment.
  • Access to Care – The goal of this focus area is to create equitable and culturally-appropriate access to medical, dental, mental health, and vision care. Projects should focus on ways to increase use of needed health services by populations who typically are underserved.
