Impact & Recognition

Outcomes and impact
In the Middle East, it is estimated that 5-7 out of 1000 children are born with severe hearing loss every year. Most of those children need cochlear implants and extensive hearing rehabilitation early in life (ideally younger than 3 years of age) to have the best chance at improving.

Additionally, access to healthcare at no-cost can offset the traumas war imposes on children. With supported hearing, children will have a better chance at social development, communication, and independence. Especially when their families cannot afford necessary care, opportunities to receive substantial care are life-changing. In our organization’s history, we’ve already supported over 700 children in their access to no-cost cochlear implants. By the end of 2026 we’ll have treated 900 children with cochlear implants, making us the largest organization for cochlear implants worldwide.
Success stories
Part of our methodology also includes preventative care. We provide free hearing tests as both preventative care and a way to screen children who may need further support. This year, one of our youngest patients in Lebanon was Zahraa Ali Qarout, a 135-day old baby who survived an airstrike that destroyed her home, and took her brother Haidar and sister Ruqaya. Our team was able to meet her at the My Right to Hear center in Saida, Lebanon, where she underwent middle ear tests and an Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR). Thankfully, Zahraa’s test results confirmed healthy hearing. Zahraa was the 123rd participant in the first month of our hearing test program in Saida, demonstrating an urgent and widespread need in the region for the type of unique support we offer.
