Grants to USA Tribal governments and Tribal nonprofits, and grants to California nonprofits, IHEs, schools, and school districts in eligible regions to address community needs. Program areas include health, education, basic needs, community development, and culture. San Manuel’s charitable giving program supports organizations that provide services in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Applications are also accepted from Tribal Governments and Tribal nonprofit organizations throughout the United States.

San Manuel Band of Mission Indians resources are directed within four giving pillars to benefit these communities and improve quality of life for adults, children and families. Applications are considered through the lens of demonstrated community need, and an organization’s capacity to meet that need.

Estimated Size of Grant:

San Manuel Band of Mission Indians does not accept unsolicited requests for over $100,000. There is an application for requests of up to $5,000 and an application for requests above $5,000 to $100,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

San Manuel’s charitable giving program supports organizations that provide services in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Applications are also accepted from Tribal Governments and Tribal nonprofit organizations throughout the United States.

The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Organizations with a minimum of three continuous years of current tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code.
- Tribal Governments and government entities exclusive for public purposes.
- K-12 schools/districts, colleges and universities. One request per school will be considered per 12-month period. In addition, a letter must be signed and submitted by the school’s principal supporting the request for funding.

- Organizations are only eligible to apply once per 12-month period.
- Organizations must demonstrate strong financial capacity and performance to be considered for funding.
- Has an established track-record that can demonstrate positive impact and progress toward desired goals.

At this time, the charitable giving program does not support:
- Individuals for any purpose (e.g. scholarships, hardship assistance, field trips).
- Grants are not made to organizations that discriminate against certain groups or individuals in the delivery of programs and services on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation or disability.
- Elections, political candidates, or political campaigns
- Fundraising dinners or events
- Programs delivering services to the general population outside San Bernardino and Riverside Counties (Tribal Government requests excepted).
- Organizations that spend more than 25 percent of their operating budget on administrative overhead and fundraising costs.
- National organizations that do not deliver services in our geographic area (national Tribal organizations requests excepted).
- Third party funding/funding for redistribution to other groups.
- Religious organizations seeking funding for religious purposes. Religious organizations that have received 501(c)(3) designation, seeking funding for projects outlined in our Giving Pillars are eligible to apply.
- Booster Clubs. Clubs are encouraged to work directly with school principals on school application.
- Beauty pageants

Pre-Application Information:

- Grant Applications Accepted: February 1st – June 30th
- Grant Review: May 1st – June 30th
- Award Notifications: July 1st – July 31st
- Grant Period: August 1, 2020 – August 1, 2021
- End-of-Year Reporting Due: September 1st 2021

Applicants are encouraged to apply well before the deadline date to allow the department ample time to conduct their due diligence.
