Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to USA, Canada, and International accomplished scholars to produce a new work on the science, theory, commerce, history, or art of theatrical motion pictures. Proposed projects may be Internet sites, interactive DVDs, multimedia presentations, curatorial projects, or books.

Projects examining elements of the film industry that have been underrepresented in the canon of film scholarship will be given priority.

The Grants program directly supports the overall mission of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize and uphold excellence in the motion picture arts and sciences, inspire imagination, and connect the world through the medium of motion pictures. The program also supports the Academy’s commitment to diversity in the industry. Diversity encompasses artists as well as audiences; the cultural and geographic communities to which they belong; their age, gender, race, ethnicity, disabilities, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The Academy seeks to fund proven and rising institutions that open pathways for storytellers from a wide range of backgrounds, and especially those from underserved communities.

Through the Grants program, the Academy seeks to:

  • Promote diversity
  • Bridge the opportunity divide
  • Attract and engage broad new audiences for theatrical motion pictures
  • Provide a platform for underrepresented artists, the full range of film genres, and a variety of viewpoints and approaches
  • Encourage filmmaking as a vocation
  • Illuminate less visible aspects of filmmaking and the film industry through scholarly research, presentations and discussions
