Grants to USA and territories nonprofit organizations, government agencies, tribal governments and agricultural businesses, associations, cooperatives, and networks to enhance food markets and businesses, improve agricultural products and direct producer-to-consumer markets, sales, and activities. Required registrations may take several weeks to complete. Funding is intended to increase access and availability to locally and regionally produced agricultural products. Priority consideration will be given to projects that benefit communities located in areas of concentrated poverty with limited access to supermarkets or locally or regionally grown food.

Award size varies by project type. Applicants may not request less than or more than the respective minimum/maximum amounts.

For Capacity Building projects:
- Minimum award: $50,000
- Maximum award: $250,000

For Community Development Training and Technical Assistance projects:
- Minimum award: $100,000
- Maximum award: $500,000

Term of Contract:

The performance period is of 36 months. The Start Date is programmed for September 30, 2020 and the Completion Date for September 29, 2023.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must be domestic entities owned, operated, and located within the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, or Tribal Governments.

Eligible applicants include:

- Agricultural Businesses or Cooperatives
- Producer Networks or Associations
- CSA Networks or Associations
- Food Councils
- Local Governments
- Nonprofit Corporations
- Public Benefit Corporations
- Economic Development Corporations
- Regional Farmers Market Authorities
- Tribal Governments

The applicant may subcontract or subaward with partners and collaborators (section 4.6.3). However, only the applicant must meet the eligibility requirements. Project partners and collaborators do not need to meet the eligibility requirements. Partners and collaborators may come from private or public, for-profit or nonprofit entities. Applicants must show evidence of existing community or industry support and engagement.

Fiscal Sponsors/Agents: FMLFPP eligible applicants may use fiscal sponsors/agents in their effort to attain and administer a grant award under FMLFPP.

An applicant organization cannot accept an award and later transfer the award to a fiscal sponsor/agent.

Applicants can use up to $6,500 of the amount requested in their applications for purchasing or upgrading equipment to improve food safety. This fund limitation does not apply for applicants requesting funds for food safety certification activities.

The deadline for submitting applications for the 2020 Request for Applications is May 26, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.

Applications received after the due date will be subject to the AMS' - Policy on Late Applications (see Supporting Documents below).

All applicants will be notified via email if they were selected for funding or not. It can take several months from the application due date for applicants to be notified.
