Grants of up to $5,000 to King County, Washington community organizations for programs that encourage increased community participation and connection for residents in unincorporated areas. Funding is intended for projects that enhance the community, educate residents on local issues, increase equity and social justice, and promote community engagement.

Priority for funding will be given to local, community-led organizations in unincorporated King County that encourage collaborations and partnerships.

Community Engagement Grants will support projects that advance the King County Strategic Plan and achieve at least one of the following goals:

  • Promote the engagement of unincorporated area residents in community or civic activities
  • Educate local residents about issues impacting them
  • Implement a community enhancement project
  • Meet King County’s equity and social justice goals of increasing fairness and opportunity for all people, particularly for people of color, low-income communities and people with limited English proficiency

Example project types:

  • Events (concerts, festivals, education/safety)
  • Neighborhood improvement (tree planting, cleanup, graffiti removal)
  • Community-led planning or training
  • Signs for a neighborhood or community

Funded projects have included:

  • Music and movie nights in local parks
  • National Night Out events
  • Support for local senior centers and food banks
  • Investments in neighborhood tool libraries
  • Community signs
  • Youth projects

Amounts will be limited to less than $5,000 per project.

Term of Contract:

Funding for projects will begin in March, 2020.
Projects should be completed in 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible applicants:
Locally-based, community-led organizations in King County’s unincorporated Community Service Areas, and organizations that are based in a city but serve unincorporated area residents, that encourage collaborations and partnerships in unincorporated King County.

If your organization is not incorporated, you must designate a fiscal sponsor. Partnership with local non-profits is encouraged. Please contact the CSA Grant staff lead for guidance and support.

Please note: These funds may not be used for political activities.

Pre-Application Information:

All applications must be received by 5:00 PM on November 4, 2019.

A minimum match of 25% of the total project cost is required. The match can be in the form of volunteer time, cash, or other forms of in-kind services and other resources from project partners and contributors.
